TENNIS RESULTS

Monday the 28th of June the Karabar High School Boys Open Tennis team travelled to Nowra to represent the South coast region in the Semi Finals of the CHS Tennis Competition.

The boys played both doubles and singles matches. Play was tight, we started very well in the doubles draw and where ahead in games. At the end of the singles draw, even though we were equal with Narooma on sets, the Narooma team where ahead on games. As a result Narooma progressed to the finals and Karabar High had a friendly match against Figtree High School.

The results of the Karabar V Figtree match put Karabar ahead on both sets and points.

As the manager of the team I commend the boys for their sportsmanship and play. I thank Dean Solway who has been a committed member of the team for 3 years and now leaves us for further studies beyond High School. Dean provided some very entertaining net play in his doubles matches and with touches of Wimbledon held out 7 - 5 in his singles.

I welcome Mark Solway to the team. Mark gained his position in the team this year to replace Chris Orroyo who left Karabar for a college education. Mark played as number four and held his own in all of his matches. He combined well with Adam Bradley in the doubles and rallied consistently in his singles events.

Michael Elliott again held his own on the court especially in both his singles matches. He also combined well with Dean to win the first of the important doubles events.

Adam Bradley gave his all as the number one player. He faced some very tough opposition in his first singles match going down to the hard hitting Narooma player however his skills came to the front in both doubles events. He and Mark where narrowly defeated in their first doubles event but took the second and third set convincingly.

As team manager it is always disappointing to see the boys so close but unable to finish off and go to the next level, especially when there was only a few games affecting the outcome. We will be looking for a new member of the team next year to replace Dean and although we will miss Dean we will be doing our all to make it our winning year and progress to the final 10 in the state.
