SENIOR STUDENTS’ SPORTING SUCCESS

Ten Karabar High students played in the Queanbeyan Whites U18 Rugby Union team which won their grand final game against Royals on Saturday 4 September in extremely wet and windy conditions. Wade Ganzerla, Sean Gibney, Reece Gossner, John Headon, Ash Rule, Poon Saiyanmontakul, Cameron Sims, Alex Walsh, Duncan Warner and Brad Webber all put in excellent performances in the atrocious conditions. Brad Webber pounced on a loose ball to score the Whites only try, which was fortunately converted. Royals scored a try of their own which they failed to convert to set up a tense second half of dogged defence for both sides, with the Queanbeyan players jubilant with a final score
of 7-5.

Although Daleth Djokic and Matt Cain didn't play in the grand final due to injury, they both played an important role in getting the team to the grand final, and joined a vocal group of Karabar High students on the sideline, with Matt Chapman, Reece Ebert, Amy Jenkins, Linley Jenkins, Kyle King, Miles Thompson, Lani Turbitt, Kat Walsh, Nicole Webber and Lachlan Whan, cheering their friends in the driving rain, encouraging them to victory.

Although there were many fine individual performances throughout the season, the key to this team's success was not individual flair, but excellent teamwork with everybody playing their part and supporting each other on and off the field. These young men worked together to produce results greater than the sum of their individual efforts, demonstrating what can be achieved by working together towards a common goal.
