2011 Tour
THE KARABAR HIGH SCHOOL REDBACKS MARCHING BAND TOUR
During the recent school holidays, the Karabar High School Redbacks Marching Band travelled to the USA to perform and gain experience through musical and dance workshops offered by Disneyland, and then on to Canada where they performed and competed at the Calgary Stampede.
The Marching Band was accompanied by a large supporters group comprising of parents, grandparents, community members and siblings.
The tour started in Los Angeles where the Marching Band performed in several performances at Disneyland and Universal studios. The students were then privileged to be invited to workshops with some of the Disneyland Choreographers and musical directors to expand their knowledge and skills related to performance. All students found it a valuable experience.
The tour then flew to Canada where they were invited to perform at the Calgary Stampede parade. This was a gruelling 6km route where the band marched and played throughout the whole procession. They were also privileged to do a march pass for Prince William and Princess Catherine.Students, teachers and supporters enjoyed this amazing opportunity.
Whilst in Canada, the Band toured to Edmonton, the British Columbia Ice Fields, Banff and Lake Louise. The students also participated in a home stay with one of Canada's most successful marching bands the Red Deer Royals.
This tour would not have been possible without the hard work and organizational skills of Ms Alison Nilon. All members of the tour thank her for her dedication to student learning and encouraging a strong community involvement in the school band.
