New Apprenticeships
Apprenticeships generally take three to four years to complete and involve study and on the job trainingbefore becoming fully qualified or licenced in that trade. Apprentices will usually work on the job with their employer four days per week and receive "off the job training" 1 day per week, usually with an organisation such as CIT or TAFE.Apprenticeships and traineeships are available in a wide range of industries.
Traineeships usually take 1 year and also combine study with on the job training. They can be the first step towards gaining an apprenticeship.
New Apprenticeships are 'competency based'. This means it may be possible for a New Apprentice to complete their training sooner if they have reached the skill level required. New Apprenticeships are covered by formal agreements known as either 'Training Agreements' or 'Contracts of Training'. These agreements set out the training and supervision an employer must provide for the employee, as well as the employee's obligations as a New Apprentice.
New Apprenticeships Centres are located in over 300 sites across Australia, with some 200 sites in rural and regional locations. New Apprenticeships Centres are valuable resources for information on New Apprenticeships. To find out more about New Apprenticeship Centres click here
